Consultations & Workshops
If you are in need of some one to one care and attention, you have come to the right place. Sometimes all you need is somebody to sit down with you and assess a full feed, give you helpful tips on how to alleviate pain and heal sore nipples, or even how to wind your baby to reduce colicky behaviour in the evening. During your consultation you will have my full attention and together we will draw up an action plan in stages to help you achieve your goals. Depending on whether you have an in home visit or a practice based visit, you will then receive one –two follow up phone calls to ensure that all is going well and you feel supported. As moms will often call me in a crisis, I try to see moms within 24hours of their call and even work on Sundays if I am in London.
These are some of the areas we will look at during your consultation:
- Positioning and attachment.
- Efficient transfer of breast milk.
- Sleep/feed cycle or routine.
- Problem areas that you are already experiencing such as:
- Sore nipples.
- Low milk supply.
- Slow weight gain.
- Blocked ducts.
- Maternal diet.
In-Home Consultations
Feeling a little overwhelmed by the responsibility to caring for and feeding your baby? You are not alone, all parents feel a wave of excitement and trepidation in the early days once home from hospital. If you are having problems with breastfeeding or any aspect of baby care, or are not ready to leave the house and live close to central London, then this is perfect for you.
I am with you for an hour and a half, in which time I will assess both mom and baby to find a positioning and latching technique that will suit your baby and body shape. We may need to correct your positioning and attachment techniques if you have already found one that you are happy with but just need to refine a little. We will also set aside some time to address any concerns or queries you have regarding breastfeeding and your newborn. Though you may feel a little nervous when I leave, you will be left with a comprehensive set of notes to refer to and I will also call you twice to ensure that you are supported and give you an opportunity to ask any further questions. My mobile is diverted to my landline number in the evenings, so if you are concerned about your baby, you will often be able to reach me unless I am out or addressing ante-natal classes.
Practice Based Consultations
For those of you who are already on the move and who have a wonderful husband or partner at home to drive you into Harley Street. As we are dedicated to caring for parents and their newborns, the Birth Company is open 6 days a week and I am available here on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays for consultation. So if you only need a brief consultation or have a weekend emergency and live too far for me to reach, this is perfect for you.
Your consultation will run for an hour during which time we will address your primary concern first and then cover other queries and concerns you have. This consultation is unique to you and your needs and I encourage parents to bring along with you a general breakdown of activities and challenges encountered over the past few days, along with any tools you may need a little help with. These are often pumps or breastfeeding cushions or nipple shields, however, there is no need for you to bring anything other than yourselves and your baby on the day unless you feel you would like to. You will leave with a comprehensive set of notes and will receive on follow up phone call to ensure that everything is going to plan. The Birth Company has a wonderfully relaxed feel and should you need to complete a feed after the consultation, there is a light and airy reception where you can sit and nurse peacefully.

Breastfeeding Workshops
My Breastfeeding Workshops offer the most in depth perspective of breastfeeding, how it works, how to make it work and how to recognise when you are doing well or need a little help!
Though the class is theory based, it is focussed on practical solutions to avoid common pitfalls. We do cover a lot of ground over a 2.5 hour stretch, so you will be given a conclusive set of notes in a booklet form containing visual guides to positioning and attachment, as well as bullet point instruction for easy use.
Most moms take these into hospital, as they prove a fantastic resource when the midwives are too stretched to help you position and attach your baby!
The Breastfeeding Workshop is a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning preparing for the arrival of your baby with other prospective moms. We start at 10.30am and are generally done by 12.30pm, though we can chat until 1pm whilst I tidy the room. Places are limited to keep the atmosphere relaxed and friendly, and to allow individual queries to be addressed. During the workshop we will look at:
- What the breast looks like inside and how to use this knowledge to your benefit.
- How to feed your baby when you only have colostrum on day 1, 2 and 3.
- How to manage engorgement to prevent sore nipples and mastitis.
- How to feed your baby once your milk has come in to ensure that your baby is getting the hind milk.
- Getting the positioning of your baby at your breast correct, in order to avoid sore nipples.
- Different ways to get your baby onto the breast so that it doesn't hurt.
- How to tell whether your baby is getting enough or need more by look at what comes out – what goes in must come out, right?
- A short DVD will show you what is happening inside your baby's mouth during a breastfeed. This is a fantastic way to tie everything together and etch it into your memory for when you start nursing.
You are more than welcome to make your own notes, but you will be sent a comprehensive booklet of everything we cover a few days before the workshop, so that you have time to familiarise yourself with the content before attending. This makes the learning process a lot less strenuous and more enjoyable.
The workshops are very popular as the success rate is high, so please book your place as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Consultations Packages
How about one of our fantastic packages that meets all your antenatal and postnatal needs?
If you would like to book more than one consultation or workshop in advance, a package would be more suitable and allow you to plan ahead. The most popular packages are Blossom, Tulip and Poppy which include good antenatal and postnatal support, with the Orchid package being the most cost effective.
|
BLOSSOM Package Group Breastfeeding workshop. (Antenatal preparation) This is a good option if you have family and friends who can support you once you have the basics of breastfeeding under your belt. Favourite with second/third time moms who want to refresh or learn about breastfeeding as well as a little practical help to ensure all is going well postnatal. |
DAISY Package 1 private in home workshop (antenatal) The in home workshop will either be a baby care workshop, breastfeeding workshop or one tailored to your individual needs within a 2 hour period.
