Let's Breastfeed

Wind wind go away!

I am sure that many of you would love to chant this all day and hope that it comes true! There are so many of you writing in to ask about winding and burping technique that will effectively expel these naughty little bubbles which are causing absolute havoc for the entire family!

The thing is though, there is not one winding technique that works for every baby all the time. There are no rules to say that patting or rubbing are more or less effective than the other. You just have to learn to read your baby’s body language and work with your baby, rather than against.

There are three simple rules that I use:

  • If your baby is arching back or backwards, there is wind that needs to come up and out.
  • If your baby is pulling his or her legs up, there is wind that needs to come down and out.
  • You have winded your baby sufficiently when he or she is relaxed and not jutting or contorting to the right or left.

Go and see a cranial osteopath, use infacol or other winding aids or come and see me.

If you are pregnant, join a breastfeeding workshop before you have your baby, as we cover a lot of practical tips during the workshop.

I hope this helps and wish all of you a wonderful weekend.

Much love,

Geraldine
