Dear Geraldine,
My daughter is 4 weeks and I still can’t put her down during the day. Evenings are even worse because she cries pretty much from 5pm until 10pm and I just don’t know what to do with her. I am so tired and wonder whether she is not getting enough milk or whether my milk is not a good quality? Please help.

I am sorry that things are so tough for you right now, but don’t worry, I have a good idea of how we can get you back onto ’solid ground’.
Firstly, you need to look at your baby’s nappies and output. If your baby is gaining weight well, 20g – 30g each day, there is no need to worry about your milk supply or quality. If your baby’s dirty nappies are yellow, she is getting to the hind milk so don’t worry about a foremilk – hindmilk imbalance.
It sounds like your baby just needs some good old fashioned help to go to sleep.
Sleep deprivation is accumulative an usually by 4-5weeks, the baby is simply frazzled and can’t get to sleep on her own.
This is what I suggest you do:
- Check your positioning is correct – any of the eBooks will have the Positioning and Attachment Bonus you need for this.
- Check that you are winding your baby correctly or enough at each feed.
- Learn how to settle and soothe your baby during the day and night for good sleep habbits – again you will find the Get Some Sleep Bonus with any eBook for tips and guidance.
When you know how to manage these challenges, you won’t feel quite so overwhelmed. You will feel confident and informed and this itself will alleviate some of the pressure of getting it right.
Come and see me at my practice if you would like some practical guidance rather than the DIY option.
Kind regards,
Geraldine

Neat! I’m pregnant with my second child and can’t wait for the due date, even though I know a few things there’s plenty I don’t. Thanks for the information, you don’t know how much I appreciate it.Thanks!Darla
