Oh no, too many moms are developing recurrent mastitis, so I want to briefly address this quickly this morning.
If you have been unfortunate enough to develop mastitis, I know you will be keen to avoid developing it again at all cost. For some reason, recurrent mastitis is on the increase.
So I am going to outline a few pointers for you to consider.
You will know by now that I ‘shoot from the hip’ and find the root of your problem, so there is no messing around
Firstly, if you have been given antibiotics, take the full course. Don’t stop half way through because you feel better or ‘don’t like taking medication’. Chances are that your infection will get worse if you do this!
Make sure you understand why you developed mastitis in the first place. Was it positioning or attachment, do you have too much milk, did your baby catch a cold and feed less, or did he or she sleep for a longer period at night causing you to miss a feed? Whatever it is, be sure to correct and avoid it at all costs.
Thirdly, did your antibiotics work to clear the infection completely or did you still have redness/lumps/pain in the breast after completing the course? If your infection has not cleared completely, you will need to revisit your doctor so that he or she can reassess and prescribe more of the same or a different type of antibiotic. Either way, they should clear your infection. If they are not clearing your infection, you may not have found the cause of mastitis and as this has not been rectified, you will not recover!
Lastly, you need to do some DIY and learn a little about causes of mastitis and management or treatment plans so that you can act quickly and reduce the severity of the infection. Most moms I speak to have only been given half the story, which is why their mastitis just gets worse and worse!
I have given you all the tools you need in the Mastitis eBook. If you are suffering, get it, read it and implement the strategies as they will work quickly and effectively.
Take care of yourselves!
