As I am getting so many emails from expectant moms asking about which products to get before baby arrives, I thought I would just briefly jot down a few items that I think are quite useful, as well as where to get them from.
Firstly, Breast Pumps…
I really like the Medela range of pumps. If you are looking for a budget double pump – I would recommend the Medela Mini Electric Plus £70. The Bentley version is the Medela Pump in Style £195 or their latest offering Freestyle Breast Pump £245, which is a hands free set up and clips onto your bra strap so that you don’t need to hold it.
If you are looking for a single – I would only recommend the Medela Swing. It is efficient, quiet and portable. Whilst the Mini Electric is a little cheaper – the noise it makes will drive you mad and restrict how, when and where you will feel comfortable expressing.
With regards to bottles – I only use the Dr Browns or Born Free bottles which is PBA free, for the first 6 weeks of baby’s life. These are compatible with breastfeeding and using anything other will more than likely result in breastfeeding problems and a lot of trapped wind.
Breastfeeding cushions – My Brest Friend if anything. I prefer moms to hold baby with the opposite arm to the breast they are feeding from – to reduce or omit the use of cushions and pillows – for more info on positions see the Beginners Guide on the home page.
Where to go…..
In London, UK, we are quite fortunate to have 2 fantastic companies which take care of everything for you.
For a variety of breast pumps and accessories visit www.expressyourselfmums.co.uk. There is a phone number available for you to call if you need a little advice from Karly or Sharon and their team are friendly and helpful – so don’t be shy!
On a broader scale but still providing the highest level of advice and service, we have Baby Concierge. www.babyconcierge.com The owner and founder Caroline Cosgrove works hard to keep up to date with all the latest innovations and will only recommend items you will truly need. However, as she is such a fantastic researcher, you will be excited and thrilled by the items she stocks – so note to all prospective dads – hide those credit cards!
Wishing you all success and happy feeding!
