When we as individuals, experience problems in any area of our lives, we naturally feel the strain. When we experience breastfeeding problems though, the entire family comes under pressure and feels the strain as it affects mom and baby, but dad and other members of the family too. Breastfeeding problems need to be resolved quickly and effectively before too many areas of family life are affected.
Breastfeeding problems can quickly be divided into three areas, namely sore nipples, sore breasts and breastfeeding problems affecting baby – such as low milk supply.
Sore nipples usually are a result of poor positioning and attachment, however there are many other reasons that can lead to sore nipples too.
Sore breasts are usually the result of poor drainage – as a result of poor positioning and attachment, however there are othere causes too.
Low weight gain, prolonged feeds, low milk supply are usually problems that come about due to poor positioning and attachment and poor drainage.
Can you see how everything starts with poor positioning and attachment? It is this reason that I focus on positioning and attachment suited to the individual mom and baby, during a consultation.
Get this right, any most of your problems will evapourate within hours – seriously!
My special area of interest is the cranial compression which results from labour and different delivery techniques and the impact that has on breastfeeding i.e. baby’s ability to latch well and drain the breast properly.
We always have to start there and then work up the ladder until we have totally resolved breastfeeding problems.
If you are not familiar with the website, there is a FREE breastfeeding assessment available. This will talk you through the three problem areas in a little more detail. You can also have a look at the ‘ABOUT ME’ section, to learn more about how I work.
The online programs are full of information – based on my experience working with moms and babies who have endured all kinds of labour and cranial compression, so I am sure I can help you too..
Much love,
Geraldine
