Dear Geraldine,
My baby is due at the end of November and I am nervous that I will have problems breastfeeding, as nobody in my family have been able to breastfeed successfully yet. I am not sure if there is just something ‘wrong’ with the ladies in our family but would like to set up a support system before baby arrives. How would you advise that I prepare myself for breastfeeding before the little one arrives and what should I do afterwards?
Thank you,
Sarah Marshall
Hi Sarah,
You sound very anxious which is understandable given your family’s history regarding breastfeeding. Many moms have asked me the exact same question and I have to admit, it is difficult to say for sure whether you will or wont have breastfeeding problems as this often depends greatly on what the problem experienced is. It is important to say though, that most women can breastfeed provided they have the correct suport. The best thing you can do is prepare yourself properly, so that you know exactly what to expect from the very start.
I would suggest that you get yourself copy of the Let’s Breastfeed Program that will teach you everything you need to know about how to breastfeed successfully – it only has relevant information and practical tips to ensure breastfeeding success.
As you have not said whether there is one particular problem that all the women in your family suffer from, it is difficult to comment further. If it is low milk production – I would suggest that you also get yourself a copy of the low milk supply eBook, as this will give you many different options to explore before baby arrives.
You still have quite bit of time before your baby arrives, so if you would like to join me for a Breastfeeding Workshop to go through the practicalities of breastfeeding, just drop me a line. (My workshops have a 99% success rate and will be totally different from anything you have learnt or heard elsewhere!)
I hope this helps and I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Geraldine
